On May 18-20, The Sun will host a weekend writing retreat at Wildacres in Little Switzerland, North Carolina. I will be one of five instructors to lead writing workshops in fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. (You can find out more about these instructors and read about their workshops here.) The weekend will also include readings by Sun authors, group writing sessions, and other opportunities to connect with fellow writers and readers in a beautiful retreat setting.
We are offering four full scholarships to emerging writers with original perspectives who would not otherwise be able to attend. Our intention is to provide an opportunity for emerging writers to cultivate their craft and connect with a supportive literary community. We are open to candidates from all walks of life. Previous recipients include a monk, a sex worker, a formerly incarcerated individual, and a cancer survivor. We welcome applications from writers of all ages, and writers of color are especially encouraged to apply. In order to make this opportunity more widely accessible, scholarships include a modest travel stipend.
The online scholarship application can be found here. The deadline to submit an application is April 6. All applicants will be notified of our decisions by April 16.
